London: The head of Britain’s domestic intelligence agency, MI5, Ken McCallum, said that Iran is trying to hit military sites in the UK amid Russia escalating its warfare against Ukraine’s allies.

He added that the suspected plot to attack a US- run military air base in September is ‘not unique.’ There have been other examples, "not just in the UK but around the world,” he said.

The incident prompted a major security alert and led US President Donald Trump to withdraw aircraft from the base. McCallum also said that he cannot comment further as the investigations are ongoing.

According to AP, McCallum said another “major shift this year has been Iranian ambitions to come at harder targets, like military sites.”

On Russia, he cited an attempted drone attack on a cargo plane at a German airport and a cyber attack on Polish energy infrastructure.

According to reports from Reuters, McCallum also added that Tehran is trying aggressively to attack Britain beyond the conventional targets of Iranians opposed to the Islamic authorities.

He also warned of the potential harms which can be caused by the potential development of biological weapons and new pathogens with the aid of artificial intelligence by terrorists.
